YaZZ and the Plastic Population takes on the Big Bad Bossk

In the stars above the ice covered Felstad, another event occurred.

It's All-Skype Fight Night!

A solid gaming night on Saturday night, after a profitable visit to the ice-covered Frostgrave realm, Kraken and I rose to the stars, and apparently a bit of a skewed camera angle.

Rebel: YAZZ and the Plastic Population (YT-2400, Z95, Z95)
http://xwing-builder.co.uk/view/405946/yazz-and-the-plastic-population

Scum: Big Bad Bossk (YT-666, z-95, Y-wing)
http://xwing-builder.co.uk/view/405986/big-bad-bossk

It was time to fly the other faction, and so I took control of Kraken's usual favoured group.

Well, I was feeling rebellious after three consecutive Scum losses without taking a single opponent down! I'd also heard good things about Dash Rendar, and thought that given my usual diet of floating space rock, I'd use him without having to worry about where the hell I was flying.

Sizzling XXX

A random free night

It's All-Skype Fight Night!

Plans fell through for my evening, and Kraken was done with his painting for the evening, and the brood in bed, so we opted for an impromptu dog fight.

Rebel: Almost XXX (Xwing, T70 Xwing, Ywing)
http://xwing-builder.co.uk/view/393981/xyx

Scum: SIZZling (Starviper, IG88, Z95, Z95)
http://xwing-builder.co.uk/view/405405/zazs

Kraken chose another Scum random list from my kit, I had another unplayed rebel list.

My list needed a little tweaking, as the gods of random chance gifted one of the Z95s the ability to use his missiles twice, but no actual missiles to fire. Maybe it wasn't super-optimised, as lists go, but one of the nice things about Xwing is that nothing seems too heavily overpowered. Most ships have a chance against most other ships, with good flying and a little luck.

I'm a LIAR vs BEKASZ I'm Worth it

A Hive of Scum and Villainy, all right -

It's All-Skype Fight Night!

Following on from last week's session Kraken and I jumped on to skype to battle amongst the stars.

Empire: I’m a LIAr, it’s quite operational (emperor’s Lambda shuttle + royal guard Interceptor + TIE Advanced)
http://xwing-builder.co.uk/view/399530/liar-list

Scum: BeKASZ I'm Worth It (Kihraxz Fighter, Aggressor, StarViper, Z95)
http://xwing-builder.co.uk/view/404289/just-bekasz

True to his roots, as revealed last week, Kraken took the scum, and I rolled with the Empire.

Evening all - I shall be revealing the thought processes behind my moves in bold type. It'll be short, there isn't much going on in my old noggin as a general rule.

Home to Roost

We're on the home straight with the Space Marines commission! Hurrah. It's been good fun, rattling through them and seeing the army build up. Can't say I'm really going to miss painting all that black and red, though.

Or the logo.

Frost Past the Post

Life is like a winter storm
Here in Felstad
Duelling wizards are the norm
Drives a chap mad
Might find some warp rifts
Or die in snow drifts

Frostgrave! (woo oo)

Back in the snowy maze of Felstad for tonight's battle report - another clash of Chronomancy and Enchanting, courtesy of myself (Kraken) and Kasfunatu!

Little has changed since our previous meeting. My warband is still scuffed from the first clash, with about a fifth of my dudes staying at home to nurse their injuries. No matter! For my wizard is an enchanter, and between him, his apprentice and some pretty damn sweet dice rolls, they're bringing a pair of large constructs with them to make up the numbers.

Ouch!

The Chronomancer's band is looking much bigger and better dressed than mine, it's true. Snipers, treasure hunters, barbarians - he's got the numbers.

Good job I have the cojones.

Is that the official name for the summoned?

IZZY Wizzy vs Achy A-K-E Heart

Dark side or light?

It's All-Skype Fight Night!

After some recent Amazon birthday vouchers, a very kind gift from Kraken, and finding an unclaimed "reward" from credit card, I have recently filled the hangar with a few more ships.

So how better to give them a test out than with a dogfight. Kraken was on hand and after forming three lists:

Rebel: Achy A-K-E Heart (A wing, K-wing, E-wing)
http://xwing-builder.co.uk/view/399528/achy-a-k-e-heart

Empire: I’m a LIAr, it’s quite operational (emperor’s Lambda shuttle + royal guard Interceptor + TIE Advanced)
http://xwing-builder.co.uk/view/399530/liar-list

Scum: IZZY Wizzy Let’s get bizzy (Ig88, Z95, Z95, Ywing)
http://xwing-builder.co.uk/view/399525/izzy-wizzy

Kraken chose Scum, and I rolled Rebel from the remainder.

Scum chose me. At an early age.

Fly Casual

My Saber is Light!
It's All-Skype Fight Night!

Altogether now - root doot doot doot doo di doo
Di diddi diddle diddle doot di doo

A swift X-Wing hook-up from last week, this! Kraken vs Stylus, a 100 point match with both of us fielding rather proxied lists. Me because I wasn't physically present, Stylus because his collection hasn't caught up with his ambitions yet. (does anyone's? ever?)

The First Cult is the Deepest

Crypt Angels! Has it nearly been a month already? I'm lagging. Probably our internet provider's fault, I'll call them tomorrow.

Mural's Avengers III: Storm Warning

The final addition to the nursery walls has arrived! (okay, so maybe not the final addition, not just yet)

Who appears to be throwing out lots of blue wool.

Thursday 7 January 2016

Luke! We're going to have company!

X-Wing seems to me like an excellent game. There's just one thing about it, just one tiny niggle, that I can't get my head around.

Pre-painted miniatures.

Don't Cave Me In

And back we plunge into the Dungeons! The missions get tougher as Leofa and myself take on the fiendish cunning of Kraken in Mission 4 of Dwarf King's Quest: "Left Or Right?"

It's a good mission, but seriously, were these titles written on the back of a beermat?

Short Story Shorter

Ah, nuts.

I didn't win the Secret Weapon competition I mentioned last month (hats off to the man who did, it was a great read). The store voucher I got instead will go a long way towards soothing my wounds, bringing various interesting terrain options my way as it does.

Now, I'm not being suckered into trying to keep the chain unbroken or anything - it was tough enough padding out December, in all honesty - but just in case anybody in the entire world is wondering, I thought I'd stick my semi-finalist piece out here. Definitely not for the chain.

No sir.

Remember what Fleetwood Mac said.
That's right. Don't stop thinking about tomorrow.

I wasn't going to break at 34....

So yes, this is an ironic irrelevant post to keep the chain going!

Stay On Target....

Games are getting bigger as, thanks to Amazon, so do the options.

I Got A Gooood Feeling About This...

With a rapidity limited only by the speed of an Amazon courier, our little group has taken to X-Wing. Yesterday afternoon, Kasfunatu (here in bold) was kind enough to put me through my paces.

My pleasure - and if you find yourself with 30mins free over the weekend, I've left it all setup for another bout.

I assume proxies are cool, right?

Without further ado, let's lock those S-foils into attack position!

Frostgrave: Frost Footing

Happy Hogmanay!

Now we've got the tradition out of the way, let's roll some dice.

Welcome to 2016's first Woffboot writeup - Frostgrave, not a new system for us, but at least featuring a new player. New systems inbound shortly, though, so stay tuned...

This is General Kasfunatu's first outing in Felstad. He asked me what he'd need, seeing as I was hosting, and I said pen, paper, d20 and luck. Guess which one he brought most of?

I could only find a couple of d20, my normal dice bag cunningly stored somewhere; but I had one pen and two bits of A4.

That's right, it was paper.
