All Aboard The Megaboss

With little more than a week until WoffBoot XI, I'd better get cracking and finish at least one of the two armies I'm bringing.

Let's start with the Megaboss!

Shut up Google Images, you know what I mean.

It's the biggest infantry model in the Ironjawz army, and he's yours for the price of 24 long-distance bus journeys.

Ironjawz Megaboss

Not quite eye-level with an Ogor, but he's a damn big greenskin nonetheless. For all his size, he is basically a scaled-up version of the Ardboy template (something with makes Ironjawz both visually unified and ... dare I say it ... sometimes a bit monotonous to paint).

It goes without saying that, if you have any hope of painting his face, you'll need to leave gluing on his chestplate until last. That massive skull on his shoulderplate is also hollow, so that's another reason to paint it in advance.

As the biggest boss in the clan, he gets to have lots of trophies hanging off his armour. As well as the ridonkulous skull (some Seraphon beastie?) on his right shoulder, he also has a Herald of Khorne on his right.

Paint scheme for this one, as always:

  • Armour: Black Primer, Ironbreaker drybrush, Typhus Corrosion Wash, Reza Rust drybrush
  • Skin: Elysian Green base, Drakenhof Nightshade wash, Nurgling Green drybrush
  • Tusks: Ushabdi Bone base, Seraphim Sepia wash
  • Eyes: Pallid Wych Flesh
  • Weapon head: Ironbreaker drybrush x 2, Tinny Tin accents, Nuln Oil wash
  • Weapon haft: Tallern Sand base, Balor Brown straps, Agrax Earthshade wash
  • Belts and Straps: Balor Brown base, Agrax Earthshade wash
  • Checks: Pallid Wych Flesh & Chaos Black, thinned Agrax Earthshade wash
  • Skull: Zandri Dust base, Agrax Earthshade wash, Tyrant Skull drybrush, Steel Legion Drab blend
  • Bloodletter: Khorne Red base, Nuln Oil wash
  • Base: Skrag Brown, Blackfire Earth, Flayed One Flesh drybrush

The skull took a fair bit of blending and shading until I was happy with it, but probably worth doing as it's the biggest piece on the model.

There are some extra bits and scraps from the Brutes kit - mostly iron and bones - so I threw in a few of them to busy up the base.

And in case you're wondering how he scales up against regular boyz - here is the evolution of the Orruk...

Orruk Evolution: Boy - Ardboy - Brute - Warchanter - Megaboss
I had to paint an Orc Boy just to make this comparison. I'm too good to you.

Only 21 models left to paint!

  1. Massive. The skull looks very good, worth the time you spent I'd say.

There's only one model left for meto paint, but it's a long shot to get it done - it's even bigger than the boss.

    1. Paint it on the plane over - Citadel pots are under the 100ml limit and should be perfectly acceptable carry-on luggage.

  2. They're my drug of choice, so I should be able to claim them as medicinal.
